UD Trucks Co., Ltd. adds a short cab tractor for vehicle transport to the large truck “Quon” model

July 29, 2026

On July 29, UD Trucks added a “Short Cab Tractor for Vehicle Transport” to the 2026 model of the large truck “Quon” and released it.

In recent years, with the spread of BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and SUVs, the demand for transporting passenger cars with larger weight and body size has increased. In particular, BEVs tend to increase vehicle weight compared to internal combustion locomotives of the same class due to the installation of drive batteries, making it difficult to ensure load capacity and maintain and improve transport efficiency in vehicle transport sites.

Therefore, the newly added vehicle transport short cab model was developed with the combination with a trailer to meet these needs. By adopting a short cab with a shortened bed section, it is possible to extend the trailer’s cargo bed length and increase the load on the fifth wheel (the load on the coupler) to secure a larger payload capacity. This enabled transportation support for BEVs, which are increasing in weight, and SUVs, which are becoming larger.

Additionally, the lightweight and compact 8.0-liter 6-cylinder engine “GH8” delivers a maximum output of 263kW (357PS) and peak torque of 1428Nm, delivering a flat torque characteristic at 1200~1600rpm. Furthermore, by combining it with the 12-speed electronically controlled AT ‘ESCOT-VII’, it achieves both power performance suited for vehicle transport and ease of handling.
